Have You Lost All your STRESS BALLS?

When was the first time you used the little yellow rubber ball with the Happy Face on it?

Have you ever been discussing something with a coworker and then they just grab their little stress ball and you know it's time to start with a graceful exit? I was always anticipating the THUMP on the back of my head or for it to come whizzing by my ear at any second. Honestly, I think It would have been more help to their stress relief if they would have used it that way instead of aggravating their Carpal Tunnel symptoms.

There are 3 types of strategy one can go to when dealing with stressful situations.

Action Oriented or You take action that, in time, will help you to take more control over your life. In other words, you do what you can to reduce or eliminate the sources of stress so there's less to deal with.

Emotionally Oriented or Psychological Strategies designed to strengthen      emotional responses to stress. They help you disrupt negative thinking and replace it with more positive thinking.

Acceptance Oriented are strategies that help you deal with stress when you have no power to change or disrupt the source of the stress.

You can look back through your entries and build a picture of the sources of your stress. You will start to see certain events and a pattern of your responses to them, emotionally and physically. You will also start to uncover how often your thinking negative thoughts. Once these are all down in black and white, you can build strategies to overcome your anxieties.
You have seen others, or maybe you, twirling their hair, maybe chewing on their pens, playing with their jewelry, or cracking their knuckles, which drives me into Looney Tune Land. But they are doing the same thing a Stress Ball does for someone. It refocuses their attention on the act instead of what's causing the stress. That in turn will help you increase your productivity because you are now more positively focused. And we all know that the most focused person is not the one sitting and staring at a computer screen for a solid 8 hours a day.

Do you think it has all to do with just doing something with your hands?
If so, people have been shown to remember information better when they wrote notes out by hand, some of you may “remember back when I went to school”

So the bottom line is “What can be done about Stress”
Treatment for Stress, Anxiety, Worry, and/or Depression comes in many forms
  • First and foremost, Understand the problem for the individual.           Was it started in childhood or developed later? What circumstances bring it on, does it center around their beliefs and values, or is it genetic?
  • Next, Examine what can be changed. Many times values, expectations, or beliefs can be a driver for the problem. Dysfunctional life problems can be many things. Entering Bad relationships, Wanting only the best and then having to pay for it, or those that expect perfection. It's not always “Outside” circumstances. Many times this can only be fixed temporarily because they end up returning to the same circumstances as seen in Addiction Recovery. Then you can understand that it's not only a stress issue.
  • Finally, find treatment for both the stress /anxiety, or depression and what's causing these things. Seeking a Healthcare Professional is your best bet.

Most are reading this searching for answers to a real life problem and I hope what I do can help you in some way or steer you to someone who can but a little happy face rubber ball takes the attention away from where it should be. But when illnesses linked to stress cause 120,000 deaths a year, I guess we need all the help we can get.
